Cultural Heritage
The 7 Most Endangered monuments and heritage sites in Europe in 2023 – the 10th anniversary year of the programme – were announced by The Hague on 13 April.
With one exception, they are all located in countries formerly – wholly or partly – under communist/undemocratic control. Many of the problems highlighted reflect the difficulties they have inherited, in terms of weak public accountability and a lack of funding in support of heritage sites.
It was truly wonderful to be in Prague – amidst its extensive and many-faceted historical landscapes -to join many others in some of its lesser-known historic buildings to meet, welcome and celebrate this year’s 31 award winners.

Our experience of Europa Nostra as an organisation, as well as the Awards, has been overwhelmingly positive, both in terms of what being selected as a Laureate has done for us as an organisation, as well as attending the ceremony and conference in Venice.
On the 13 December 2021, Europa Nostra held an open webinar with the team at My House of European History. The Europa Nostra UK AGM was once again held online as a response to public health advice about COVID safety. While we were disappointed not to be able to spend time with friends old and new, the positive aspect of this virtual approach is that it allows members from across the UK to join in, making the event more inclusive and accessible.
In early March 2020, the world went into lockdown. Like many other cultural heritage organisations, DigVentures realised the arc of the COVID-19 pandemic was a watershed moment for our organisational survival as well as the global future of the sector.
For Europa Nostra (EN), supporting young people has always been a priority, demonstrated by events like the 2018 “The Future is Heritage” Summit, the 2019 Capacity Building Days, and initiatives like free membership for 18-33 year olds, and the newly launched European Heritage Youth Ambassadors Programme.
